Description
Noneloquent means “non-functional.” Most objects are created with a predetermined purpose, and their form follows that purpose. Yet, at times, objects are used in ways unintended by their maker—shaped instead by the user’s environment and habits. In this sense, the function of an object is not completed in planning but is ultimately fulfilled through the user. With this in mind, Noneloquent proposes diverse, random forms without consideration of function, allowing function to emerge naturally according to the user’s needs.
The project began with Korean ash and has since expanded into experiments with more than twenty different types of wood, as well as materials such as concrete, fiberglass, Boryeong black granite, and glass. Recently, the work has grown in scale, extending into pieces reaching nearly five meters in height.
